JVP not to join govt.

The talks between the SLFP and the JVP yesterday ended with the JVP deciding not to join the government, but only offering conditional support according to the agreement reached at the last elections, sources said.President Mahinda Rajapaksa and JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe were not present at last night’s Temple Trees meeting. A JVP spokesman said the decision was taken after the SLFP disregarded the 20 point common programme put forward by his party.When the Daily Mirror contacted JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa, he declined to comment as the party was planning hold a news conference this morning to make the announcement.The JVP was represented by Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa, Secretary Tilvin Silva, MPs Anura Kumara Dissanayake and K.D. Lal Kantha, while the SLFP was represented by party Secretary Maithripala Sirisena, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and Dallas Allahapperuma.
