Troops recovering heavy loads of explosives in Sampoor

Yesterday evening troops recovered twenty three anti personnel mines and six casings of anti tank mines from the Sampoor – Kaddaparichchan Aru area.

Throughout the current search and clear operations in Sampoor Sri Lankan troops recovered massive amounts of LTTE mortars and bombs which are believed to have been left behind by the terrorists when they fled from the advancing Security Forces.

According to military reports, till today troops engaged in operations in Sampoor have totally recovered,

- 73 Nos. of Anti personnel mines
- 11 Nos. of Anti Tank mines and 06 casings of Anti Tank mines
- 61 Nos. of 120mm High explosive Mortar bombs
- 315 Nos. of 82 mm Mortar Bombs
- 19 Nos. of 60mm mortar cartridges
- 715 Nos. of T-56 ammunition
- 1800 Nos. of live rounds of MPMG ammunition and 150 Nos. of 12.7 live rounds
- 3 ½ meters Nos. of detonating cord
- 19 Nos. of improvised 'jumping' mine timing fuses and 16 Nos. of 82mm mortar fuses

8th Sri Lanka Singha Regiment and 6th Vijayabahu Infantry regiment continuously recovered these loads of explosives since last Wednesday.
